Ich
untersuche natürlich vorkommende Populationen von
Wildmeerschweinchen (Cavia aperea) in Uruguay und
Südostbrasilien,
Wieselmeerschweinchen (Galea musteloides)
in der Provinz Mendoza in Argentinien und eine neu entdeckte Art der
Gattung Galea im Andental von Cochabamba in
Bolivien. Angewandte Methoden sind Radio-Telemetrie, Direktbeobachtungen, Fang- Wiederfang-Experimente und die Erfassung unterschiedlicher ökologischer Parameter, wie klimatoligische Daten und die Kartierung der Habitatstruktur. Ergänzend zu diesen Freilanduntersuchungen werden molekulargenetische Vaterschaftsanalysen mit Hilfe eines "genetischen Fingerabdrucks" (Multi-Lokus DNA fingerprinting und Mikrosatellitenanalyse) durchgeführt.
Durch
die
Erfassung unterschiedlicher ökologischer Faktoren, wie
Habitatstruktur,
Futterverteilung und Raubfeinddruck, soll deren Einfluss auf die
Entwicklung
unterschiedlicher Paarungs- und Sozialsysteme innerhalb der Familie der
Meerschweinchen untersucht werden, um hieraus generelle Regeln für
die soziale
Evolution von Nagetieren abzuleiten. Asher,

Qualifikationen und Interessen
1973 wurde ich
in Hamburg geboren und laut meinen Eltern begann ich bereits im
Kindergartenalter Würmer, Insekten und Spinnen zu beobachten und
zu sammeln.
Während meiner Schulzeit widmete ich mich dann etwas
größeren Organismen, errichtete
Nisthilfen für bedrohte Vogelarten und engagierte mich bei der
jährlichen
Kröten- und Froschwanderung. Die Arbeiten zum Schutz von Amphibien
setzte ich
auch später im Rahmen zahlreicher Projekte des Naturschutzbundes
Deutschland
fort und befasse mich seit 1994 mit dem Laubfroschschutz im
Münsterland. 1993 nahm ich das Hochschulstudium an der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster mit dem Diplomstudiengang Biologie auf. 1994 erweiterte ich dann meine naturwissenschaftlichen Studien um ein Lehramtsstudium (Sek. I/II) in den Fächern Biologie, Geographie und Philosophie. Mein großes Interesse an fremden Kulturen führte mich im Laufe meines Studiums in verschiedenste Länder. Neben zwei Reisen nach Nordamerika (USA und Mexiko) und zahlreichen Besuchen europäischer Länder bereiste ich 1994 Ostafrika (Tansania und Kenia) und 1996 den australischen Kontinent. Beide Reisen waren ausgedehnten zoologischen Expeditionen gewidmet, die eines meiner größten Hobbies sind. Während meines
Biologiestudiums wählte ich Zoologie als Hauptfach und schloss
1999 mein
Studium mit einer Diplomarbeit zur Verhaltensökologie von
Wildmeerschweinchen (Cavia aperea)
unter der
Betreuung von Prof. Dr. Norbert Sachser ab. Diese Studie wurde in
Brasilien durchgeführt und war in das Schwerpunktprogramm
"Genetische
Analyse von Sozialsystemen" der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft
eingebunden. Seit 2000 bin ich
Doktorand der Abteilung
für Verhaltensbiologie am Institut
für Neuro- und Verhaltensbiologie der Westfälischen
Wilhelms-Universität Münster unter der Betreuung
von Prof.
Dr. Norbert Sachser. Der Forschungsschwerpunkt
meiner Doktorarbeit ist die Evolution
von Paarungs- und
Sozialsystemen
südamerikanischer Nagetiere und basiert auf
Freilanduntersuchungen
in Brasilien, Uruguay, Argentinien und Bolivien, die durch den
Deutschen
